What
 |
The fFN test is a simple procedure,
similar to having a well-women exam, that can
help you physician or nurse-midwife determine
you risk of having a preterm baby. There is
little discomfort for you and it is safe for you
baby.

|
|
| |
When
 |
Your
doctor or nurse-midwife is your best source of information
and resource to advise you. The test can be performed as early
as your sixth month.
|
 |
There
is nothing special you need to prepare for the fFN test.
But, it is recommended that you not have sexual intimacy
within 24 hour of the exam, semen may change the accuracy
of the test results.

| |
How
 |
If
the results are negative, it may mean that you have less
than a 1 percent chance of you baby being born within the
next two weeks, even if you having contractions. Your
doctor or nurse-midwife can advise you on how to monitor
your symptoms and possibly avoid medications, hospitalization
or other treatments.
|
 |
If
the results are positive, it doesn't mean you will have
your baby prematurely. It allows your doctor or
nurse-midwife to determine the best treatment for you.
This may mean medication, bed rest, or
hospitalization.
