Nutrition during pregnancy

Mothers-to-be may not agree about food—which foods they crave, which foods comfort them, but they do agree that they feel duty-bound to eat healthy. It’s never been so important to eat right or to make every ingredient count then during pregnancy.

Did you know that eggs contains all eight essential amino acids, making them a perfect source of protein? However, you'd have to eat at least eight eggs a day to get all the protein you need. Be sensible, include them as part of a balanced and varied diet.
While carbohydrates maintain an adult body, protein is the essential nutrient needed during pregnancy for building and growing a brand new body.

Deficiencies of protein or of one or more of the indispensable amino acids will lead to reduced growth in children or loss of muscle mass in adults. Susceptibility to disease will be increased, and in extreme cases, death may result. Protein-energy malnutrition is often described in its two extreme forms: marasmus which is a generalized wasting due to a deficiency of both protein and energy, and kwashiorkor which is characterized by edema (PIH) and a deficiency of both protein quantity and quality (i.e., poor pattern of indispensable amino acids).
